1. Introduce yourself and tell us a little about you.

My name is Harriet. My creative side started years ago when I took 4-H after school. Anyone else do that? I started with knitting and loved it. I knitted a sweater one year that had lots of cables and special stitches…entered it at some local fairs and won first prizes and special award ribbons for it. I’ve enjoyed making things ever since. Would you believe I still have that sweater?

2. Tell us a little about what you create.

I’m in a knitting & felting (ok, technically, it’s fulling) phase right now. I really enjoy how relaxing knitting can be and I get a kick out of seeing how my items transform when I wash them in the washing machine. I also enjoy painting (favorites are acrylics & watercolors).

3. Tell us what inspires you.

I get inspired by looking at magazines articles and browsing in craft and thrift stores. I see something and try to see what other level I can take something to.

4. What is your favorite piece in your shop right now and why?

My favorite piece hasn’t made it into my shop! It’s one of my water bottle cozies, knitted in a lovely dark brown wool and accented with a aqua blue fun fur. I love that color combo!

Miss Courageous Vinyl Necklace Giveaway October 22, 2008

I am so excite to do my first “In Her Own Words” feature from a talented green artist on etsy!  And lucky readers- you get the chance to win one of Miss. Courageous’s oh, so hip black vinyl Necklaces.  But first things first, let’s learn a little bit more about this inventive artist.

1.  Introduce yourself.

My name is Millie aka “Miss Courageous”

2.  Tell us a little about what you create. 

Everything I make used to be something else. I create jewelry & accessories using anything from old vinyl records and cassette tapes to jar lids, altoid tins and bottle caps. (and I can’t help but using a few game pieces too!)

3.  Tell us what inspires you.

Transformation. The process of taking something that would have been thrown out and turning it into something that is not only useful, but beautiful and desireable.  I also love a challenge, so when somebody gives me something I haven’t used before I love the challenge of figuring out what it can become, I’ve been brainstorming on what to do with a huge bag of corks and a big box of really cool old 8 track tapes, so stay tuned!

4.  What is your favorite piece in your shop right now and why?

5.  What is one green thing you do on a regular basis?

Just one thing? I would have to say most importantly is that I live in a location that enables me to walk almost everywhere and I support the local businesses and farmers in my communty.

6.  What is your best tip for green living?

Keeping it local, support local artists, growers, and businesses. And share your trash! LOL, there are so many people who are taking things that are normally thrown away and turning them into wonderful works of art. I regularly trade supplies with other local artists.
